sector-santa-maria-acg-8Sector Santa María: This sector is accesible from Liberia (20 km aprox) on the way to Colonia Blanca or from Curubandé, located on the southeast side of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, it has four life zones, tropical humid fores, very humid premountain forest, rainny premountain forest and lower premountain cloud forest. The terrain is very irregualar ranging from the 600 to 1894 m.a.s.l. at the Von Seebach crater. Part of the higer watershed of the Tempisque river and Bebedero is born here, including Río Negro, Liberia, Salto plus and other big part of rivers and creeks that flow to the east side of the Volcano, it is important to note that over half of the drinkable water for the city of Liberia comes from this sector. There is a variaty of animals due to the big diverity of habitads among them saino, tepezcuintle, armadillo, mapachin, perezoso de dos dedos, pizote, jaguar, guatusa, and three types of monkeys; it's an important place for birds, including palomas, pericos, loras, pajaro ardilla, tucán, mosqueros y pájaro campana. There are special habitad for microorganisims that live on acid waters and hotspring asociated with the precense of the volcano. From here it is possible to access the volcano crater and the Jilgueros lagoon.

There is a house for the staff, there is also an old ranch house that can be used to sleep or use, electric power and drinkable are available, is accesible all year long.
